MEET GREG - A Proven Leader in Education
Hi there, I'm Greg Palatto. I am running in order have a voice on the Bonita Unified School Board. My reason of why I want to engage on this path is to ensure that our district continues to provide excellence for the whole child, which is what led me to make the easy decision a long time ago to move to Bonita for my own children.
I have been in the education field my entire life. I attended undergrad at UCLA, studying psychology, and began work there as a Behavior Therapist and an Instructional Aide for students with Autism, of which I continued with after graduation for many years. I worked as a substitute teacher while earning my master’s degree from CSUN in Educational Psychology and Counseling, with a credential in School Psychology back in 2001. I have worked as a School Psychologist since then, almost 20 years, and currently work next door in the Charter Oak USD. My passions for education and doing the best to serve our whole child led me to also join the California Department of Education's Social Emotional Learning Workgroup, as well as being a leader on the State Council of Education Student Support Services Committee. Focusing on whole child development is my passion and I have committed many long hours (and years) to advancement in these areas. I also enjoy guest teaching school psychologist graduate students in the University of La Verne LaFetra College of Education. On a personal note, I enjoy spending my free time doing activities with my family, advocating for our students, participating in running and obstacle course races, and playing golf.
I live in La Verne with my wife Joanna, who is an elementary school teacher, and two children. Taylor, my daughter, attends school at Grace Miller Elementary, while Ryan, my son, is about to start middle school at Ramona. We love the Bonita School District and community, and want to be part of its continued success. Things we love to do as a family include camping as much as possible during our summer breaks and participating in local community events.
We love the programs in our community. I have had the opportunity to help coach my son's little league teams through La Verne Little League, as well as my daughter's softball teams at La Verne Girls Softball Association. We can't wait for those seasons to be able to reopen. If you even need to find us, we are typically at one of those ballparks in the afternoons.
We are also proud to help support Scout Pack 462 in La Verne in their events. Both of my kids enjoy the Scout Pack and we have enjoyed participating on those committees. With the exception of this current cancelled 4th of July event, I have been honored to drive the truck and flatbed hosting our scouts.
I am also a proud officer in the San Dimas Masonic Lodge in downtown San Dimas. We are a community service based group full of brotherhood and rich history. Hopefully you got to watch us in the San Dimas Holiday Parade with our aprons or been able to visit one of our events.
I have recently joined the La Verne Rotary, and enjoy the presentations and support to and from our local community with the La Verne Police Department, Bonita School District, City Planning, and much more.
We also love to give back to the community and teach these values to our own children, including working with food drives at church, packing treat bags for the La Verne Christmas Day Santa parade, and other activities to brighten the day with our neighbors at Hillcrest.
